The Zagreb and Zagreb County Roma Association is non-governmental, non-profit organisation, established in 1993. Established on the initiative of Roma national minority and organized by its president Mr. Alija Mešić.
It is established with the aim to promote Roma rights on the field of education, housing, and employment. Also to improve infrastructure of Roma settlements, nurture Roma language and culture. Because of increasing exclusion from society, poverty and unemployment. We are accomplishing those aims through informing wide society with Roma problems, education's, seminars, sport activities, organising workshops, co-operation with governmental and non-governmental bodies, institutions, publishing and direct help Roma national minority.
Aim of the organisation is also gathering Roma national minority, education and motivation of Roma youth, and satisfaction of their cultural, economic and social needs.
The region in which association is acting is City of Zagreb and Zagreb County, and with it's working in settlements: Kozari putevi, Plinarsko naselje, III. Struge, Gornji and Donji Petrusevac, Radnicka 67, Staro Brestje, Gornja and Donja Lomnica, Kozari bok, Savica sand, Pionoirski grad and Tresnjevka. Within the association there is sub-agency Ivanic Grad which cover settlements Posavski bregi and Jalsevec.
Users of our programs are all members of the association, total 4 700 members. We offer our members all services free of charge, and our work is based on voluntary work, with technique assistance of experts.
Bodies of the association: parliament of the association, presidency and control board. President of the association is responsible for legislation of work.
Activities: co-operation with national and international Roma associations in organising Roma World day, folklore section, sport section within which Roma Football Club is founded, and is competing in third Croatian Football league. Organising seminars about social welfare and health culture, summer schools, participation on World Congresses (1998, International Romani Union Congress in Washington, V. IRU Congress in Prague...).
Member of International Romani Union, and president of the association is also a vice-president of IRU.
We collect and distribute humanitarian help provided by different organizations. Association is for the sixth year editing 'Romano čaćipe' magazine, always available in pdf. format for free at our web pages www.umrh.hr.
We are also trying to publish Roma Dictionary and Grammar.
Today we co-operate with many Roma associations and unions in Croatia and abroad, with competent ministries, government of the County, variety of schools, and that co-operation is attending to continue in the future.
Problem that is acquiring all the time is problem with the lack of financial means so some of our programs could not continue.
In this way we want to plead to you that you help us in financial support or to gave us information's who can help us in continuing our program of editing 'Romano Cacipe' magazine. We will be grateful if someone would support both or one of the projects.
